MyWWP App

To better serve those who served us.

mywwp.org

We designed a mobile app and partner portal so Wounded Warriors could find critical services and connection, fast.

  • User Testing

To get decisive, actionable findings, we let users explore without artificial restrictions. We design our prototypes to accommodate this need, as a final product would.

  • Design Thinking

Infuse empathy with an iterative approach that places the needs and perspectives of the users at the forefront of the design process.

  • Personas

Bringing your target users to life with personas that are rooted in research and crafted with strategic data and insights creates a clear voice to model.

  • Journey Maps

The path of an experience is seldom a straight one, especially when looking to improve your user experience. Mapping that journey is a powerful way to begin.

  • Experience Strategy

We evaluate internal perceptions, user goals and best practices to find that “special sauce” that drives an actionable roadmap for your future experience.

  • Prototypes

If a picture is a thousand words, a high-fidelity prototype is the entire story. Bringing the user experience to life with a fully-interactive artifact is a low-cost, high-value way to iterate without the investment of code.

  • Sketches

When it comes to bringing ideas to life, the pencil is mightier than the keyboard. And much faster.

  • Responsive Design

We design for the future on today’s devices. Every element is considered for every size display to create an ideal experience for all users.

  • Visual Design

Through imagery, messaging, color and typography, we deliberate over pixels, consistency, readability, contrast, accessibility and creativity.

  • Functional Specifications

Converting your designs into well-documented specifications with functionality, flows, layout, and styles ensures that no developer has to guess what comes next.

  • In-Depth Interviews

Climb inside the world of the user with structured interviews that bring their unique voices into the design process.

  • Competitive Analysis

See where you shine, where you don’t, and how to leverage that intel to fill the most important gaps in your experience.

  • Alignment Workshops

Bring stakeholders together through structured, facilitated sessions that establish priorities and strategies for a path forward.

  • Design Systems

Good design will translate to a good design system — and vice versa. Build your brand with well-defined styles and components at the heart, and it will grow and breathe well.

The Challenge

Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) is a nonprofit that helps Post-9/11 veterans dealing with physical or mental injury, illnesses, PTSD, and other challenges resulting from their military service. The organization provides interactive, consultative programs and services, and also hosts events around the country to help them connect with one another to find community, comradery, and support.

As they approached their 20th anniversary, WWP had grown to a community of 200,000+ Warriors. But the vast majority of their interactions were analog, consisting mostly of emails and phone calls. Veterans who needed assistance—and many who were often unable to get themselves organized—were overwhelmed by outreach in an unstructured and disorganized way.

WPP didn’t have a login experience where Warriors could get personalized attention online. In fact, many Warriors never realized the full scope of services and options that were available to them. WWP knew that Warriors were overwhelmed by the status quo. But when it came to finding a way to tame the chaos—and surface all the great work that was being done—so were they.

Our Approach

ZeroDegrees was incredibly impressed with this amazing organization, and we were ready to help them build something equally impressive, even when it meant doing it all from scratch. Our idea was simple: put the Warrior at the center of the experience and ensure that it was easy for them to find the programs, services, and events that met their individual needs.

If you’re hurt, let’s get you medical care. If you’re having trouble re-acclimating to civilian life, let's get you some support, fast. If you’re just looking for someone to go hunting with or want to catch a ballgame, there’s a Wounded Warrior Project event near you.

We started with deep-dive research and built personas to portray the many different types of Warriors that WWP serves. We held design studios to brainstorm ideas and imagine everything the experience could be. We talked to Warriors to parse the facts and the frustrations. It quickly became clear the best way to deliver the WWP experience was through a mobile app. So we prototyped. We tested. We talked to more Warriors. Until we finally got to something that felt right.

Our detailed design specifications helped WWP find a developer who could work with Salesforce to ensure their CRM remained solid. But with all of our deep, firsthand knowledge, WWP asked that we stay involved. So, ZeroDegrees dug back in, refining personas, working with iterative designs, making sure the personalization engine worked perfectly. And in the end, we knew we nailed it.

The new MyWWP experience begins with a quiz-like interface that helps WWP learn about each Warrior’s needs and interests. Then, it serves up individualized results in an easy-to-scan, easy-to-scroll, and easy-to-discover way. The app also allows messaging and group discussions that keep the Warriors conveniently connected to their support network, right from their phones.
